Workers at Charlotte Douglas Airport who are organizing with SEIU have been pressing the Charlotte City Council to pass a measure establishing “minimum standards for wages, benefits, and training for airport workers employed by airline contractors and permitted businesses.” But the city council has been deadlocked on the measure – so now the workers are getting involved in the upcoming city council elections.
The Century Foundation has a comprehensive look at Trump’s attacks on workers since the beginning of his first term. “Trump’s DOL has reversed commitments to states to build an effective unemployment insurance system; undercut its own ability to fight wage theft, international worker exploitation, and discrimination; and actively dismantled the department from the inside by slashing 20 percent of its staff.”
